Obfusc + CHEjU

Obfusc is the musical output of Brooklyn, NY-based photographer/graphic designer Joseph X. Burke. Drawing inspiration from everything that surrounds him -- the chirping of birds, conversations overheard in passing, mass transportation -- Burke submerges field recordings and other found sound amongst layers of sweeping melodic lines and percussive geometry. Today, following three principally electronic releases, Burke continues his focus on producing melodic music amidst a broader array of analog instrumentation and experimentation. All signals meander together through a hand-rendered daydream: unstable one moment, floating the next.

CHEjU is Wil Bolton, composer and producer of experimental electronica and co-owner of Boltfish Recordings. His style is a mixture of warm synth tones, crunchy broken beats, and layered atmospheric textures.

Telefon Tel Aviv

This, their third album (Immolate Yourself) is the result and the essence of a development in their music, which you can trace through their previous work Fahrenheit Fair Enough (2001) and Map of Effortless (2004). Both see it in the same way: The record is still entirely Telefon Tel Aviv, but a cross processed filter saturated, grainy, distorted, dusty and distressed version. Immolate Yourself unites ten tracks with the aim to give the term electro pop a new definition for 2009. Although each track has its own story to tell, together they paint a bigger picture that encapsulates the Telefon Tel Aviv sound.
