Integral

With their very personal approach to dark and beautiful IDM compositions, Integral have created a touching aural narration that reveals new depths with every listening experience. The talented German duo leads electronic music into new dimensions, adding not only complexity to their unique sound but an accessible human element as well that shines vibrantly. Captivating from beginning to end, Integral’s debut album ‘Rise‘ is a timeless collection of electronic music that is sure to leave you spellbound. Each track is distinct, yet all together carefully orchestrated as a whole, inviting the listener to an effervescent cinematic journey of his or her own mind. Desperate and hopeful, melancholic and heroic, ‘Rise‘ is as nourishing to your heart as it is to your soul.

Quantic

"Skilfully blending players across different continents"
"Quantic is a music genius who has created a true world music sound, one that is universal to all…"
"Quantic has become a byword for quality"
"It is becoming increasingly tricky to find fault with the immaculate work of this prolific producer"

Quantic Presenta Flowering Inferno is the latest in the constantly evolving series of musical outings from the unstoppable Will Holland - aka Quantic - and amazingly ‘Death Of The Revolution’ represents his tenth full album release on Tru Thoughts. The concept and style of the Flowering Inferno project rests simply on pleasurable, easy-to-listen dub and reggae inspired music made in a tropical climate; and the standard and scope of the music is as dazzling as one has come to expect from this prolific, globe-trotting maestro.

Strings Of Consciousness

Although the group is driven by three main composers (who contribute everything from laptop to tibetan bowls and saxophone), Strings Of Consciousness is one of those sprawling collectives where well over a dozen members have added some bits here and there. The resulting tracks are dense mixtures of acoustic instrumentation and digital filtering, swaying and unfolding in ways that blend together jazz, modern classical and post rock. Their debut release Our Moon Is Full arrived last year, and now they're back quickly with Fantomastique Acoustica, a release that contains four new songs and a huge batch of remixes from some fairly big names.

Ochre

Ochre is essentially two things: the colour of coats from the seventies and Christopher Scott Leary, a veritable purveyor of British bleeps working hard to preserve 2004. Leary himself was projected to cult status thanks to the now defunct Toytronic, who signed his delicately amazing A Midsummer Nice Dream (2004) and got him a leg-up to the Benbecula Records workshop of weirdness. That’s where he remains to this day, conju ring away with his prototype sequences, only now that it’s the present (duh) he’s got a wily knife in his boot: add a dash of 2011 to the mixture, and coo your audience with tales of a time where the cost of recording with electricity means it’s all going to get done by orchestras.

Berg Sans Nipple

The franco-american duo The BERG SANS NIPPLE consists of (but is not limited to) Lori Sean Berg and Shane Aspegren. The former is a suave Frenchman from the dirty rues of gay Parieee and the latter is a lanky Scandinavian-looking fellow who actually hails from the dusty plains of Nebraska. Once rumored to have been Siamese twins separated at birth (according to them, their relationship is really much closer to that of Ghost Dog and the ice cream vendor), the reality is only more mundane at first glance: two kids (both best known as drummers) trapped in a tangled mess of cables, keyboards, samplers, horns, bells, machines and drums. Since 2003 with their record 'Form of' they have established themselves as a key part in contemporary music being one of the most obvious links between IDM and post-Rock. The Berg Sans Nipple have a 'repertoire' going from hard post-Rock rhythms to chaotic IDM compositions with parenthesis of melodic tracks.

A peek below the music’s drowsy surface, however, reveals that there is actually an impressive amount of activity churning beneath. A lot of this music—Air, Boards of Canada, Dntel—billows forth in formless clouds, but the Berg Sans Nipple’s songs move with liquid grace. Themes develop, rather than just float in and out. An idea plinked out on a glockespiel resurfaces in watery synths on “Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades”; a buzzing army of video-game blips hijacks the end of the beaming indie-pop of “Along the Quai.” Aspegren and Berg flesh out the tracks with an impressive array of percussion, including bongos, glockenspiel, steel drums, and cascading rock drums, all without disturbing the album’s aura of mystery.

Birchville Cat Motel

Birchville Cat Motel has gained international recognition as one the bright shining lights of drone-music. Kneale has to be one of the most exciting proponents of the New Zealand noise-avantgarde scene, engaging the full spectrum of electro-acoustic sound exploration over numerous releases on such labels as Ecstatic Peace, Drunken Fish, Freedom From, Last Visible Dog, Celebrate Psi Phenomenon,Insample and more …
To listen to Birchville Cat Motel, one must really free their mind. It is more than just an aural experience. Being immersed in his soundscapes is like being transported to another world, like a great composer, he puts each piece in its perfect place as to leave the longest impression. o9

It's not old school, it's old testament, not high-tech,
but high priest. It's as important as the fucking Bible. Cracking the egg code on total beat typography, o9 has written the first hard-driven masterpiece of this new dead-end, face-to-the-terminal century. All of which might sound like a snooty criticism but it's not. Throughout this patchwork of Autechre, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin there are great tunes, clever sonic tricks and hard-as-nails beats. And on final track Terminal Brown - yes, you can probably guess, they all have titles like that, Terminal Something - o9 goes some way to pushing things forward. It also has the fine advantage over many of those artists undeniably present here of being coherent and a sensible length, without too many insane shit-in-a-balloon-being-rubbed-with-an-electrified-cello-bow excursions.
